The Addits

Life is a chemical process and the more we understand what chemicals attract carp, the better we can bring together a complete package specifically aimed not only at attracting carp but also at actually encouraging and enticing them to feed.

Our studies began some years ago when, encouraged by Tim Paisley, a selected number of anglers around the country were given one part of the overall concept for testing. Gradually a picture built up; certain products were dropped, others added and some of the inclusion levels were adjusted. Finally, in 1987, we were ready to launch what we considered to be the optimum finished product onto the market. It was greeted by many informed and experienced anglers as the nearest thing to the ‘ultimate’ bait so far achieved. The subsequent success of the range has proved that they were spot on in their assessment!

Much of the original research that went into the composition of the Addit range originated in Japan, where commercial fish farmers had been working towards perfecting a high yield commercial feed, though not specifically for carp. It was known that many cyprynids responded positively to certain stimuli that seemed to actively encourage them to feed. Their research showed that the fish reacted favourably towards a mixture of chemical scents composed of naturally occurring amino acids, enzymes and other taste factors, and if they could mimic these natural stimuli the benefits would be obvious. The Japanese were light years ahead of the field when it came to what turns fish on, but as their experiments were not specific we needed to do a lot of work before trial and error led us to a final product. Unfortunately, their work was purely scientific and thus not easy for the layman to understand, but eventually we sorted the wheat from the chaff. The result was the Addits, three products with a unique chemical composition, designed to be used in combination, to form what is undoubtedly the best underwater ‘come hither’ message ever designed for the carp market.
